(1882 – 1945) was an Austrian-born philosopher of science, sociologist, and political economist. He was also the inventor of the ISOTYPE method of pictorial statistics and an innovator in museum practice.

(born Reidemeister 1898 – 1986), was a German designer, social scientist and author. Marie renamed the Vienna Method of Pictorial Statistics to Isotype. and designed educational books for younger readers.

Over the last 30 years IIID has become one of the best-known names for developing the information design discipline worldwide. Wuhan Institute of Technology, school of art and design (武汉工程大学, 藝術設計學院) focuses on cultivating designers, integrating teachers and students, and completing research projects. It has formed a unique school-running characteristic and takes four orientations for development.
